There is no single molecule for gasoline like there is for ethanol. It is made up of lots of different molecules and these blends change all the time based on climate, location, and refinery. But for us, octane is important and there are limited ways to get octane. Ethanol free gas is prevalent near lakes because it sells well. The ethanol myth is strong. Many boats have fuel systems similar to small engines. These use low pressure hoses not modern fuel injection hose. These hoses are often more susceptible to deterioration from strong solvents and have a history of fuel system related problems. I suspect the very expensive ethanol free gas sold on boat docks is blended without aromatics.
